Girls' lacrosse does not permit body checking like the boys' lacrosse, therefore players need a lot less equipment!
Required player equipment for 7-12th grade team consists of: Goggles, Mouthguard*, cleats (soccer are fine) and a lacrosse stick.
*mouthguard should be fit to players' mouth prior to practice
Girls' Lacrosse sticks typically start around $70. OSGL has a limited (and dwindling) supply of starter sticks courtesy of a grant from USA lacrosse. Supplies are very limited, but the stick is available for $20
If you're interested in purchasing a more advanced stick they usually around between $120-175.
Additional practice gear include:
Water! Lacrosse is a field sport so we want to make sure everyone stays hydrated!
Bug Spray (the gnats and mosquitos can be pretty annoying at the field)
Additional Safety note: Although girls' lacrosse rules do not allow bodychecking like the boys, USA Lacrosse recently has permitted the use of women's lacrosse helmets with integrated goggles for game play. These are different from the football style helmets that the boys wear. Because physical contact is incidental (similar to soccer and basketball) use of a helmet is not required. However, the ball we use is hard and if you'd like your daughter to have extra protection, the use of a women's lacrosse helmet is permitted.

League and Games:
Our league is made up of teams in Alabama and Louisanna. We are a tight knit group since we don't have enough local competition to have a real rivalry, so we have healthy competition but still share players when a team is down, etc.
